Sportshall League Results

Hi all,

We finally have the results of the last Sportshall competition, which took place on Sunday 11th December in Cheltenham. Can we take this opportunity to thank each and every athlete for taking part this year. We have done brilliantly and there were some truly amazing performances.

In the team events, we had 1 boys team and 1 girls team that both finished second. In the U13’s, 2 of our girls teams came 1st and 3rd with the others not far behind, whilst the boys were 3rd. In the U15’s, both the boys and girls teams were 3rd. In the individual events, unfortunately we couldn’t manage any boys or girls in the top three this year for the U11’s, but there were some fantastic achievements in this age category. In the U13’s we had two of our girls 1st and 2nd which was fantastic, a third one of our girls was also 4th. 1 boy placed second in the U13 boys individual event. Again, in the U15’s, we couldn’t manage anyone in the top three, but that doesn’t take away anything from those that came along and gave their all. This is a tough age group and it is a testament to you all that you came along and enjoyed yourselves (hopefully!).

Well done all! We hope you enjoyed the 3 events as much as us coaches, you were all excellent! Below are all the results if you can make head nor tail of them!! Over the Christmas period, these results will be scrutinised in order to select our county teams, to take part in the regional competition early next year. We have always had good representation in the county team and I am sure this year will be no different. Dates for your diary are; U11’s County Competition is on 29th January and will be in Nailsea, with the U13 & U15’s on 11th March, again down in Torbay. We will let you know if you have been selected!

More Success for our U11’s, U13’s and U15’s at the Glos Sportshall League Round 2!

Another very long, tiring but thoroughly enjoyable day was had by all last Saturday, when our U11, U13 and U15 athletes travelled down to Lydney to compete in round 2 of the Gloucestershire Sportshall League. As well as Cheltenham and Gloucester, Tewkesbury also entered a team for this event, making the competition even tougher. This didn’t deter any of our athletes as yet again, they did themselves and the club very proud and performed excellently. The standings going onto the final round are as follows;

U11’s

The boys A team currently sit 2nd overall and could take 1st place if they win the next round in Cheltenham, depending on how the other teams do. They need to watch their back though as 2nd isn’t guaranteed either, so a committed effort is required in 2 weeks boys!
The B team sit 6th overall out of 9, a very solid performance from young and inexperienced athletes so well done!

The girls A team are currently joint 3rd but also sit only 1 point behind second place, which is definitely within their grasp, so come on girls, we need to put everything into the last event!
The B team are currently joint 6th, again, a solid performance. Well done to all of you!

U13’s

The boys A team sit joint 3rd with 2 other teams – Cheltenham C team and Glos A, so come on boys, a huge effort is required to make sure you get a top 3 spot and don’t miss out altogether on the medals, you can do it!
The B team, despite only having 2 members this time and similar at the 1st event, currently sit 7th out of 8 so a very well done boys!
We have 4 teams on the girls side which is fantastic. The girls A team are out front in 1st place, a brilliant brilliant performance however, you need to watch your back girls as Cheltenham B are only 2 points behind you. You need to give everything in that last event to secure 1st place. The B team sit 4th but only 1 point behind the 3rd place team – Gloucester A. Come on girls, it would be fantastic to get 2 teams in the top 3! The C team are 7th and the D team are 9th. A huge well done to all of you, the coaching team are all very proud!

U15’s

The boys team are doing brilliantly considering for the first round there was only 2 of them and the 2nd round 3. They currently sit joint 2nd so just one last push and they could secure 2nd spot overall.
The girls team are currently 3rd, but again, they only had 1 member on Saturday so a huge well done to Amy for being there and giving it her all!

That’s it for now. Again, huge congratulations to all who competed. Let’s have one last push for the final event in just under 2 weeks time and who knows what we can achieve. Thank you also to all the parents who came down and very vocally supported the athletes as well as helping out.

A great day had by all I think we can say!

NO JUNIOR TRAINING – SAT 26TH NOVEMBER 2016

Hi all,

Regrettably, there will be no Junior Training on Saturday 26th November. This is due to the fact that we will have no available coaches as they will all be helping out at our second Sportshall event down in Lydney. Apologies for the inconvenience. Training will be as normal the following week.

Glos Sportshall Results – Round 1

Hi all,

We now have the results from the first Sportshall event which took place last Sunday down at Whitecross Leisure Centre in Lydney. Firstly, may we say thank you again to all the athletes who were absolutely fantastic on the day, some really great performances and particularly in the U11’s, where the team was fairly young and inexperienced. Thank you also to all the adults and parents, who not only helped but supported the children extremely vocally!

In summary, the standings after round 1 are as follows;

In the U11’s, our girls Team Beech were 3rd overall. Some great performances and again, particularly from some individuals that hadn’t even competed before, well done! Team Holly, consisting only of 2 athletes instead of 6, were 7th overall. This was to be expected with only two members of the team, but don’t let this take away from your great performances girls!

The U11 boys Team Oaks were 2nd, again some brilliant performances from a young and inexperienced team. There is an anomaly in the scores for this team where one of our boys hasn’t got a score for chest push. I have raised this with Elliot from Cheltenham so hopefully he will sort this out for us. This will make a difference in the scoring and will give us 3 more points. It won’t make a difference to us finishing first, but it could come the end of the 3 matches. Well done boys! Team Ash only consisted of 1 athlete in the end but he did brilliantly! Because of this, this team lies 7th overall.

In the U13’s our girls were amazing! We had four teams out this year which is the most we have ever had at this age group. Team Oreo’s are currently 1st, a fantastic performance, with Magic Stars 4th, Skittles 8th and M&M’s 10th. There were 11 teams competing in this category so well done girls! We will certainly have some selection problems come round 2!!

In the boys, we only had the 1 team with 1 spare athlete making up the other team. Team Starbursts were 5th overall, with the other team coming in 7th, again because we literally had 1 athlete. this was a tough competition for the boys, again with only 2 of the 4 athletes having competed in this competition before, so a huge well done to all of you!

In the U15’s we only had 1 girls and 1 boys team, the girls were 3rd overall and the boys, with only 2 members of the team instead of 4, somehow managed to finish 2nd! A truly amazing performance considering! Well done both U15 teams. It becomes harder to field full teams at this level so thank you for turning up and giving your absolute all for the club as usual!

As said, all the results are attached for you to look through. We will be asking for availability for the next event on 26th November, again down at Whotecross. If you are available to compete then please let your coach know straight away. If you haven’t competed before but would like to then please also let the coaching team know. We can field as many teams as there are athletes and it would be great to full teams out in every age group next time.

So, despite Elliot posting on the Sportshall Facebook page ‘Dominant display by Cheltenham athletes’, I think we gave them a run for their money! When you consider the amount of athletes they have to choose from compared to our small little club, we punch well above our weight! Well done again to everyone that took part and here’s looking forward to the 26th November!

A weekend of Cross Country and Sportshall……

Cory Sherwin U17 was competing in his first club cross country event. Despite being on the course an hour early he was still waiting for a club vest a few minutes before the start of his race. He had to start the race while still putting his vest on. He was 15th of the 16 under 17s. Having started as 0-5k runner and only doing one other training session a week apart from his regular Lydney park run, Cory will improve a lot on this performance.
Edward Leech was the club only U15 runner. Ed finished 8th of 24. Only one of those who finished in front of him was a Gloucestershire runner.
The races at U13 and U11 all had over 40 runners. Kieran Morgan 31st, and Charlie Roberts 43rd, ran in the U13 race. Aron Asher 40th and Arthur Dennent 58th were among the youngest of the U11 runners.
The girls U13 team finished 9th. Rebecca Ward 22nd Isabellel Chapman 33rd, Erlina Ainsworth 34th, Sophie Harvey 39th
The U11 girls team were the best scorers on the day. The runners were Izzy Babij 7th, Phoebe Taylor 10th, Fiona Chapman 28th, Jessica Ward 29th, Lacey Wildin 39th and Drew Sheen 53rd. The A team were 3rd behind the powerful Cheltenham club who had the first 2 teams home. The B team were 13th

On Sunday some of the athletes were competing again. This time it was indoor Gloucestershire Sportshall league. A very long but great day with the Forest of Dean AC U11’s, U13’s and U15’s, down at Freedom Leisure Lydney, competing in the first round of the Gloucestershire Sportshall League. I thought all our athletes were brilliant, performed really well and represented the club impeccably! Well done all and thank you for your enthusiasm and commitment. Thank you to all the parents also, who came down and supported or helped!

There are lots of awards to give out for all age groups, boys and girls, plus the results and presentation of the Quadkids Club Champions from our 3 Quadkids events held back in the summer. There are medals for the top three boys and girls in each age group here, just to remind you! Even if you haven’t been a member that long please don’t feel that you are not welcome, as everybody is! The fun starts at 6.30pm and finishes at 10pm and the event is being held at Viney Hill & St Swithins Football Club in Viney Hill, £1 entry per person on the night. With regards to food, there are food lists up at the club in the Junior Hut and these should be available at training over the next couple of weeks, just ask one of the coaches if you can’t see them. Please add your name to the list to bring something, as we can’t do this without your help! If you just attend Severnbanks on Mondays, then please ask Dave or Pete and they will tell you everything you need to know.

It should be a great evening and we look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible.
