Hi all,

Our annual Juniors awards evening will take place this year on Sat 25th November at Viney Hill & St Swithins Football CLub, at 7pm. It will be £1 entry on the door per person. We would be grateful of any donations of raffle prizes (hand to Jo Ablett, Kelly Worgan or Stef Francis). There will be a food list on the notice board in the Junior hut if people would be kind enough to bring a plate of something! Come along and enjoy the fun, with awards for each age group boys and girls, plus disco and entertainment provided by the High Voltage Roadshow. There is a bar there for those that have not been before. Be there or be square!

Gwent league XC

Great run by the clubs only junior Ed Leech. Ed was 12th of 90 runners only 34 seconds behind the winner. Although not a huge number of runners it was a quality field as it was part of the UK Cross Challenge.

Gloucestershire Sportshall athletics league

Coming up over the next couple of months the Gloucestershire Sportshall League will be starting.  I know many of you will be familiar with this competition from past years however some will not.  These are great meetings during which we compete at indoor sportshall events such as soft javelin, hi-stepper, shuttle runs, traget throw, vertical jump, standing long jump, chest push, balance beam, speed bounce and standing triple jump.  There are also some fund relays and individual time trials usually.  We compete against Cheltenham Harriers, Gloucester and I think last year, Tewkesbury and Chepstow also entered teams.  They are a very friendly and a fun way to introduce competition if your children are not used to competing.  We will enter as many teams as necessary. U11’s teams are  made up of 6 boys and 6 girls. U13 an U15 are 4 to a team.  There is also a county competition which takes place in January, where the team is selected from these events, so it’s worth coming along to get an opportunity to possibly compete for your county early in 2018!  There are 3 events and the dates are as follows;

Sunday 5th November at Freedom Leisure Centre in Lydney U11’s

Saturday 25th November – venue to be confirmed but I think this will be in Gloucester

Sunday 17th December at Leisure@Cheltenham in Cheltenham

The u11 events usually start around 10am and finish at approximately 1pm. U13/15 1pm-3pm Exact timings will be confirmed nearer the day.  Firstly, please please let your childs coach know if your child can attend. Let any of the coaches know if your childs coach is not at training. There is no pressure and Sportshall provides a fun introduction to competition. We will be practising measuring and timing all the events now during training. The decision on which team athletes go in will be based on these scores. There may be an exception if an athlete is doing xc  or some other athletic event and we know what they are capable from previous competitions. Please can you come back to us by Friday 27th October latest, in order that I can finalise the teams.

Many thanks and we look forward to hearing from you,

Gloucester league xc 14.10.2017

There were strong competitive fields in each of the junior races.

In the U11 girls race 9th was Fiona Chapman, 31 Ellie Morgan 34, Drew Sheen from 40 runners

The team 6th of 9

U13 girls 20 Issy Babij 22, Chloe Morgan 37, Isabelle Chapman out of 52.

U13G team 8th of 12

In the under15s Maddie Francis was the only finisher coming 19th of 24.

Just 2 under 11 boys ran 24 Matthew Powell 53 Joshua Powell out of 68 finishers

U13B 18 Owen Hall, 25 Samuel Gallagher 29 Kieran, Morgan, Aron Asher 46 out of 57.

Team 7th of 14

The positions don’t tell the whole story as this is very much a transitional year. Almost all the juniors who ran will be in the same age group next year.

It was a real pleasure to see them running with such enthusiasm.

The main thing with xc at this age is that the young athletes enjoy the experience. Once they had a bit of time to recover there were plenty of smiles.

The next Gloucester league fixture is 4th and the Gwent league 11th November. Thankfully last Saturday is the only clash this season.
