Nice looking website Steve. Thanks very much for your hard work.

Do you think there could be any way for us to post event photos to the site in future as well as news and other comments?

    • machinesteve says:

Good point. I think there is a way to post photos but send them to me and I will post them in the news. The problem is that photos can be huge and can fill up our server allocation.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments.

Thanks Steve. Yes, file size can be a problem, particularly with these 12+megapixel cameras (ahem)… Maybe there could be a way to limit the file size for posts.

Anyway, I have some photos from the Pied Piper run which a few FODAC juniors (and seniors) attended on sunday 11th July. I will send them to you tomorrow (compressed of course!).

With the parkrun photos I load them into a google programme called Picassa. They are then uploaded and available to all on parkrun. They are not on theparkrun site though and therefore don’t use their space. It is possible to just put them on Picassa as long as we had a shared username and password ie FODC and fiveacres they could be shared by everyone.

      Hi dave

There are legal issues with us having a Picassa link to do with the use of photos, permissions etc because we are a youth organisation. However there is nothing stopping individuals having their own Picassa site and then simply posting a link here.

This will work well if people post the links in ‘leave a comment’ on the news items.

There is an open meeting at Bornemoth on September 12th. Not such good surrondings. Medals in U13/15 and Quadkids 8-11 years old.

There is a new 5k event in Swansea this summer. A good opportunity to race against the Welsh ‘Elite’ as it doubles as the Welsh 5k champs (you don’t have to be Welsh to enter the race). I’m going to give it a go – first race in nearly 30 years so wish me luck!.

Of more interest to the ‘FODAC Newstars’ are the 2 Children’s races 0.5 mile for ‘primary school’ age and 1 mile for ‘older’ children and adults not running the 5k. Unfortunately it is not run on the same course as the seniors in the same way as the September event. Nevertheless, Jensen and Harrison will be giving it a go. It is free for parents to run the course at the child’s pace for ‘moral support’ if necessary

It is quite a long way to go but Swansea is a nice venue so why not make a day/weekend of it?!

A quick and very belated update on the Swansea Summer 5k children’s races.

It was a beautiful day but a disappointing turn-out, probably as the event was in it’s first year. However, although the field was very small, it was relatively strong opposition consisting mainly of the junior members of a local running club. Due to the small numbers the organisers decided to merge the 2 planned races (1 mile and 0.5 mile) into a single 1.4k race.

Jensen came 5th overall and was 2nd boy in the U11′s category being beaten only by a boy 3 years his senior. He also out-sprinted the young lad who he finished second to in the Swansea 1k last year, which gives him a lot of confidence going into this year’s race on 26th.

Harrison ran the whole course with mum (with no stopping) and had a great finish, just a couple of minutes behind Jensen.

There were only trophies for the winners unfortunately, but they both came away with medals and big smiles.

PS. The 5k was a nice race, though the field was small and mainly elite runners (50% finishing in sub 19 mins)..Maybe next year eh? ;-)

Reminder for HSBC Cardiff 2k family run TOMORROW (Sunday 12th September).

    http://www.cardiff10k.com/2K%20.html

Start and finish at City Hall, Cardiff.

Due to course restrictions the 2k is only a 1.4k course this year. Fancy dress and parent partcipation is optional!

For anyone not yet entered, it may be possible to enter on the day at least 45mins in advance of the 09:15 start. However, please check with the organisers first just in case the max number of entrants (500) has been exceeded:

It would be good if new comments could go to the top.
Anyone with any news can you forward it by the end of tomorrow. With so much sport called off on the weekend it’s a great chance to get in the papers.

    Athletics 365 Launch at FODAC

Athletics 365 is a multi-event, young people development programme, which introduces athletes to the fundamental skills of athletics (vital to every sport). It is aimed predominantly at 4-15 year olds, but the resources can easily be adapted for use with younger athletes.

The programme is broken down into nine progressive stages. Each stage provides athletes with new and progressively more difficult challenges appropriate to their stage of development. Athletes learn all the skills and events of athletics, and reinforces the importance of a good all round skill base.

The stages can be seen as similar to progression in other sports, such as the martial arts ‘belt system’ from Red too Black.
Through Athletics 365, England Athletics believe young people will develop the skills and confidence to excel in life; not only in athletics, but in other sports and other life pursuits.

We are Launching the 365 progam this Saturday 16th 9.30 til 10.30am all Primary School Children are very welcome at our sessions (Recption to Yr 6) & we always welcome new people.

We will be working towards our 1st assement & awards in 8 weeks time.

Volenteers needs for Saturday & Tuesday evening to collect the training fees & bag them, job share welcome.
If a parent is dropping off a child & can stay for 10 mins to help. This would free the coaches time to mentor assistant coaches & deliver an improved session.
If you can help please let me or Dave know
    Many thank
