Gloucestershire School County Teams running for selection for the South West Schools Cross Country Championships
Sunday January 15th Blackweir Park Cardiff.
Gloucestershire School county teams were running against the Welsh Schools district teams.
The weather was cold, and the course which is fast and flat was reasonably firm.
Other than poor Emmett (who unfortunately had to pull up with a cramping hamstring) all of the club runners finished in the top ten in the county teams so should have chance to qualify for the South West Schools Championships in Exeter on February the 4th, which is an excellent result.
There were more 100 entrants in every race.
Brad and Harry ran in the year 7 race – 2.4K and finished 8th and 11th overall and 4th and 6th in the county.
Meg ran in the year 7 race – 2.4K and finished 14th overall and 7th in the county.
Emily, Ellie and Tara ran in the year 8 and 9 race – 3.6K and finished in 11th, 20th and 35th overall and 3rd 6th and 10th in the county.
Year 8s Ellie and Tara will have the chance to run in this race again next year.
Josh D and Josh M ran in the year 8 and 9 race – 4.1K and finished in 22nd and 31st overall and 7th and 9th in the county. (all the runners ran a shorter distance than the 4.1k course due to being misdirected by a marshal)
Josh M will also have the chance to run this race again next year
Freek ran in the Senior Boys race – 6.8k and finished 13th overall and 3rd in the county.
Elana (representing SE Wales Schools) ran in the Senior Girls race – 4.6k and came 15th overall.
Well done to all of you.
